Unit #19, along with the entire SS1 development, is replete with many features which typify the Mid-Mod movement in architecture, including post and beam construction, wide expanses of glass, exposed beamed ceilings, low slung gracefully sloping rooflines, with carefully integrated carports. Before becoming one of the first residents of Sands and Shadows #1 after it was constructed in 1960, Bissner was known for his designs in the Los Angeles area, including Pasadena. SS1 is a 27 unit development surrounding a large, beautifully renovated central pool with ample green space and landscaped grounds for the residents' enjoyment and serenity. SS1 is in a fantastic location, just south of El Paseo with its plethora of dining, art galleries, and boutique shopping options, including Tommy Bahamas (restaurant and store), Coda Gallery, Il Corso, Jensen's Fine Foods, Pacifica Seafood Restaurant, Louis Vuitton, and many others!
