Sold Before Print. The Harvard School For Boys was founded by Edward Stanley Waters of Salem, Massachusetts in 1865. Its first location, on Congress Avenue between Michigan and Wabash, was destroyed by the Great Fire of 1871. After several moves to temporary sites on the west and south sides, the school managed to construct a permanent home at 4731-35 South Ellis Avenue in 1917, where it remained until closing in 2003. Fifteen years ago, two developers acquired the school and totally re-invented the historic campus. They created four condominiums, plus a separate home in the former gymnasium, which was retained by one of the developers as his private residence. It is this latter amazing residence that is now being sold. Set far back from the street, it has been re-imagined as a private oasis within the original shell of the former gym, now split into two parts. The front section has a spectacular 5,000+ square foot, two-story, four-bedroom, four-bath luxury home, while the rear section, with the gym's arching girders still in place, has become an expansive secluded outdoor garden and play area, including a two-car garage. Truly a unique property.
