2. The nights and mornings are super quiet. You can hear yourself think, and in the morning, listen to the sounds of the South Fork River.
3. There are no street lights, so the skies are super dark, with tons of stars, and magnificent auroras.
4. The sunrises, rainbows, and alpen glow are spectacular!
5. Wildlife occasionally rest, forage, or pass through the yard.
6. We have a built-in sledding hill, right out our front door.
7. Wild raspberries in the yard.
8. We can see the sun, all but 3 +/- weeks in the winter, and have awesome reflective light bouncing back from the mountains, all winter long.
9. Hiland road is awesome. Driving up the hill at the end of a long day is like coming home, into Alaska, everyday. The views are calming and spectacular. And, on clear mornings, you see Denali when headed down the hill, and toward work. Hiland is a school bus route, so the road is plowed and graveled by 5:30 or 6:00 am, everyday (as, needed) in the winter.
10. House is only 4 miles off the highway, but feels like you are in the middle of Alaska, somewhere. It's a private setting. You can barely see your neighbors in the winter, and not at all in the summer.
11. It's only a few miles to 'world class' hiking trails; our neighborhood, Spirit Park; we are surrounded by the 2 million-acre Chugach State Park;...and, only 25 minutes to downtown Anchorage; and 15-20 minutes from the base (it's a quick, easy commute).
12. Hiland is an awesome community. People love living up here and it's easy to make connections (with the help of the Hiland Facebook group, of course).
13. House favorites: fireplace, we use it every day over three seasons; love, love, love the greenhouse, and its all-season light; awesome, updated kitchen with new double oven/stovetop and microwave; love the heated garage, it has worked really well as a workshop, workout room, and game processing facility (with it's built in granite filleting table); the 'loop' first-floor, floor plan has been wonderful entertainment for the kids; and last, but not least, we love the family/bonus room above the garage...it's a big, open space, with awesome views, that has been a great place for our family to spend time together.
