First Time on the Market. This home has been owned by Ben Taylor's descendants for 155 years. Above the front porch, the sharply peaked gable characterizes the Carpenter Gothic style that was popular at the time. Through the front door, the entry hall includes a beautifully restored wooden staircase that Taylor ordered by mail. To one side, a door opens into the sitting room, heated by a brick faux-painted fireplace. On the other side, Taylor entertained in what was the original dining room. About 20 feet behind the original house, Taylor built a stone structure half-way into the ground - the original kitchen, kept apart to prevent a fire from spreading to the house. Taylor's descendants have added a modern kitchen, a larger dining area, family room and office, plus a bedroom and bath above the garage. The old stone kitchen now serves as a wine cellar and bar.
