Also a large family room, formal living room and half bath are woven into the the downstair The handsome front porch is equipped with a swinging day bed and runs the length of the house stepping down into a private yard with citrus trees, hardscape and is secluded from the street. A fabulous out building is located in the landscaped yard that has a screened in porch, a single room and a storage area. This National Historic Landmark was once the home of Robert Smalls. Since Robert Smalls was such an important historical figure, the architects at Frederick & Frederick want dot respect the integrity of the house while also providing basic necessities for a modern family. When work began, the original home was a traditional two-over-two configuration with a one story wing that as added. At some time in the past, the original double front porches were removed. However the architects found the profile of the railings cut out of the siding on both floors, which hinted at the composition of the original structure, and were able to replicate it. Storage, new bathrooms, a master bedroom closet and other modern features were incorporated at this time.
