It was built in 1908 in one of the first planned Victorian neighborhoods of Takoma Park. It used to be a boarding house back in the day and technically contains 7 bedrooms (one room was converted into a darkroom but could be used as a bedroom again). The whole house is tranquil due to plaster insulation used throughout.

For the past 35 years, it has been the home to one of the most renowned, distinguished, and richly published American photographers, who has dedicated her career to the exploration of American life and history. She has donated much of her work to the Library of Congress and is now the only living photographer documenting America’s milestones who has her own individual collection.

The owners have spent decades preserving the history of their home and keeping it as close to its Victorian roots as the modern lifestyle allows. Many features of the house are original, and many more items in the home are antique. For example, one of the bedrooms still has the original built-in cedar closet, an armoire with ornate woodwork that conveys, and both bathrooms have cast iron, clawfoot tubs. A superb radiator heating system will keep you nice and warm during the winter months.

This home is decorated in the Victorian style, with its antique furniture and numerous items and photographs from America’s rich history. If not for its modern appliances, this home could be considered a beautifully maintained living museum of American postbellum history.
