MICHIGAN SECLUDED LOG CABIN ON A PRIVATE LAKE FOR SALE! This 50-Acre Parcel is located in Duncan Township, in southern Houghton County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is located just a few miles south of the small Village of Kenton. The Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railroad reached Kenton in the late 1800s, when forests covered the area. After that time much of the surrounding white pine forests were cut and shipped out by rail to all parts of the Country. After the logging heyday, the area became settled by farmers, and today it is a flourishing tourist, fishing and hunting destination. Three sides of the property are bordered by USFS lands, which are part of The Ottawa National Forest. This National Forest is over 900,000 acres in size, and is filled with scenic waterfalls, lakes, and rivers. Kenton Ranger District of this Federal Forest is the largest and oldest (established in 1931), and is known for camping, lake-stream fishing, canoeing, hunting, hiking, and snowmobile activities, as well as Cross-country and downhill skiing. Several designated Blue Ribbon trout streams are in this area, where you will find Browns, and Brookies. If you are seeking a snowmobiling or ATV-ing destination, the main E-W U.P. Snowmobile Trail No. 8, and the N-S trail No. 107 converge in the Village of Kenton, only about four miles away. The log cabin is located on the northeastern part of a lake, called Beller Pond, and there is a nice walking trail (a part of which is a former logging rail grade) all around the lake. The area around the cabin is excluded from the Commercial Forest Program Area, which is in effect in the majority of the property. The small lake is encircled by grassy marsh and provides excellent habitat for fish, reptiles, and waterfowl. Fishing, Trapping, and Hunting is available on the property, and by “Walk In†access in Season on the adjoining National Forest Lands. Wildlife common in the area include Whitetail deer, Black bear, Moose, Gray wolf, Fisher, Pine marten, River otter, Bobcat, Mink, and Beaver. Birders will find Ruffed grouse, Woodcock, Canadian geese, Ducks, Osprey, Loons, Wild turkey and sightings of Bald eagle. The parcel is gently rolling with areas of Conifer cover, four grassy openings, and some shrub land with berry bushes. Stands of Red and Sugar maple and Aspen, as well as Fir and Spruce stands that surround the lake and marsh, all provide excellent quality habitat - for songbirds and wildlife. The Owners have planted numerous red pine along the borders of their property. A registered Survey marker in the northeast corner of the forty – is the northeastern corner of Section 36, and the northern boundary line has an older paint line. The Cabin features an Open Concept Great Room with a Sitting Area, Dining Area, and compact Kitchen. The Living/Dining Area features a centrally located stone wood-burning fireplace, natural log roof trusses, and large windows toward the... Co
