MICHIGAN 320-ACRE WOODED RECREATIONAL PARCEL FOR SALE ON POINT ABBAYE! The Point Abbaye Peninsula is a 12.3-mile-long peninsula that juts out into Lake Superior. This body of land is located in north-central Baraga County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This boreal ecosystem is bounded by the Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay on the west and by the Huron Bay on the east. Considered a very special place by the Ojibwa who fished, hunted, and camped here for generations, it remained mostly untouched until the late 1800s. The Hebard and Thurberg Lumber Company leased the peninsula in 1877 and began harvesting its old growth forests, and carrying the logs to the nearby sawmills at Pequaming. Today the thickly wooded second-growth forests are managed for production of pulpwood, and the shoreline is dotted with fine private homes and cottages, and vacant land parcels. The northern end of the Peninsula has Copper Country State Forest lands and the County of Baraga has a beautiful park located at the rugged, rocky tip. It takes about a half-hour drive over the twisty road to get there, but the view from the rugged sandstone shelf there is worth the drive! There are hiking trails, two outhouses, and a small campground for overnight camping. You might be able to see The Huron Island Light flashing from the rocky freshwater archipelago located about seven miles beyond the end of the peninsula. These islands are named the Huron Islands in honor of the Hurons who once lived in the area - and are a national wildlife area. You can launch a canoe or kayak at this "Tip", and paddle this beautiful, picturesque shoreline. The ancient Lake Superior sea beds have created some shear bluffs with high overlooks on both sides of the peninsula... And each side has its own special features. There are stunning sunset views on the west side, clear-day views of the Keweenaw Peninsula to the north, and those views of the Huron Islands and Huron Mountains from the east side. Lake Superior fishing for salmon, whitefish and lake trout abounds on either side! Boating, Sailing, and Kayaking are also popular. Another local pastime here is nature photography, and you'll have opportunities for that here year round! There is a great trail system located on the property being offered for sale, so hunting for Whitetail deer, Partridge, and Black bear can be done here, or in neighboring CFA parcels. The property has a gently rolling terrain, and the forest consists primarily of Balsam fir, Eastern hemlock, Northern white cedar, Paper birch, Quaking aspen, Red maple, Sugar maple, White spruce, and Yellow birch. Access up to Reeds Point Road is via a county maintained road that is plowed in the winter. Reeds Point Road will require private plowing. If you are looking for a larger parcel for a Hunt Club, Recreational Cabin, or Year-Round Home contact us for a private tour today!
