East Elmhurst is a residential area with a quick drive to Manhattan
Located in northwest Queens, East Elmhurst offers convenience to New York’s busier areas while maintaining a residential feel. “One of the main draws is that homeowners can drive to most parts of the city, including Manhattan, in 20 minutes,” says Elias Borjas, a resident and expert agent with Empire Fine Homes. The neighborhood lies just south of the recently refurbished LaGuardia Airport, and Grand Central Parkway runs along East Elmhurst’s northern edge. With proximity to especially Astoria and Jackson Heights—though less bustling—the area has a similar food scene. While its detached and semi-detached homes create a quiet residential atmosphere, vibrant restaurants and bars along Northern Boulevard showcase the many flavors in the neighborhood’s community.

Prewar detached and semi-detached homes with ample parking
Streets with old-growth elms are lined with Tudor, Greek Revival and Art Deco detached and semi-detached homes, ranging from $770,000 to $1.3 million. Many have porches and basement-level garages. There are a few brick rowhomes as well. “Properties north of Astoria Boulevard are slightly larger than those to the south,” says agent Alejandra Fermin, Borjas’s wife and business partner. “Homebuyers are drawn to these areas because there aren’t as many big buildings.” The few large postwar co-op complexes in the area are located closer to Jackson Heights. One-bedroom units fetch between $140,000 and $250,000. A handful of new development condos along Northern Boulevard hover around the $500,000 mark. While convenience and connectivity are priorities for East Elmhurst residents (especially commuters), they also benefit from more space than denser parts of the city — allowing for more parking. “With most properties having their own driveways, there’s much more street parking than in other areas,” Fermin says.

Areas between Astoria Blvd and Northern Blvd is not safe at night. Too many young adults that'll try to rob you or ask for money. Not enough street lights on every corner. Even though there's a precinct close by, still not enough safety.
