Alfonso was born in Santa Rosa but grew up in Gilroy, California, and is one of six children. His parents and brother live in Veracruz, Mexico. Alfonso graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was an instrumental part of the Gauchos' run to the 2006 NCAA Division I title. Before finding real estate, he played soccer professionally for over ten years.

While playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Alfonso met his wife, Kristen. They have a son and a daughter. As a family, they enjoy traveling and spending time outside. When they can, Alfonso and Kristen indulge in home improvement projects. In the summer, they love spending time in their garden, where they grow many of their own vegetables.
