Carla's education and employment history give her clients a competitive edge with the goal of achieving the highest potential from each property. She honed her extensive marketing talent over many years in the fashion, television and film industries.
After Carla graduated college with a degree in textiles and merchandising, she started her career path in Atlanta as a wholesale merchandiser for high-end boutiques. Two years later, Carla packed her bags for Los Angeles, where she refined her skills as a stylist for national print and catalog advertising campaigns. For the next twelve years, agents, directors and producers sought Carla's talents for their films, TV commercials, and fashion shows. Carla consulted and styled many well-known celebrities for events, brought advertising concepts to life, and creatively executed set designs for film and national TV commercials.
Above all else, Carla values her relationships. For over thirty years, she has been married to her high school sweetheart, Miles, an accomplished portrait artist and storyboard illustrator with an extensive commercial portfolio. They are the consummate entrepreneurial creative couple. Both raised in Charlotte, Carla and Miles left the hustle of the big cities they lived in together - Los Angeles, Dallas, Baltimore and Washington, DC - to return to North Carolina to raise their family. You could say they were working their way back home. Carla and Miles have two fabulous sons: Roman, an NC State graduate working in the film industry and Moss, a junior at UNCW, where he plays soccer. Go Seahawks! Recently, Carla's beautiful and spirited mother, JoAnn, excitedly became a resident of Wilmington, where she is enjoying her new Del Webb community. home and living her best coastal life.
For a number of years Carla has been at the helm of The Mitchell-Lewis Group's day-to-day operations, including marketing, negotiations, and closings. Founding principal, Debbie Mitchell, is less involved but still enjoys working with her former clients. Even as Carla chose to enter real estate during one of the worst financial downturns in history, she found significant success, crediting much of her achievement to the exceptional mentors and team of realtors at Intracoastal Realty.
Paying it forward is Carla's way of showing her deep appreciation for all the guidance and support she received. Now, it is Carla who teaches classes and is a keynote speaker at seminars for new realtors. She shares her experiences, identifies the pitfalls of the practice, and encourages them to work hard, strive for excellence, and make customer service a priority. Carla emphasizes this last point: "When emotions run high, bring your clients back to their initial joy of buying their home".
Carla gives back to the greater Wilmington community in countless charitable ways: from mounting The Communities in Schools annual fashion show to raising donations for the Pretty In Pink Foundation to gathering her real estate team at holiday time, donning Santa hats, renting a van and treating the residents of a local senior citizen home to an evening on the town, complete with dinner, a tour of Wilmington's festive holiday decorations and the gifting of a personalized poinsettia to cap the celebration.
Although Carla takes her work obligations seriously and has exceedingly high standards, she's easy-going, witty, and ready to laugh. While working hard to stay a Top Producer, Carla, despite her success, remains humble and grateful to all those who believed in her.
