As a native North Carolinian, I am intimately familiar with the charm and distinction of the many different communities that make this state dynamic. From the mountains to the sea, North Carolina has many communities, small and large, that reflect our diverse culture. I enjoy exploring farmers' markets looking for unusual local produce. Another enjoyable pursuit is finding waterfalls in our local, state and national parks, and snowboarding our mountain resorts in the winter. Water skiing and boating is a fun pastime on one of our many lakes as well! The ocean is never far away in North Carolina. It's fun to visit beaches along our shores and discover the history of flight, the Lost Colony and the wild horses. The rich history of North Carolina can be discovered around every corner. Greensboro and Durham both have museums where some of the significant struggles of the Civil Rights movement occurred. Grand Southern estates and agricultural farms surround the densely populated city centers. Modern communities that feature mixed use buildings that encourage residents to work and play in their communities. Disney's themed neighborhood, Asteria, in Chatham Park is an example of North Carolina's national appeal. I believe that North Carolina is one of the most diverse and interesting states in the Union.
