About Dan
Daniel J. McKay, President of McKay Investment Realty, Inc., began his real estate career in 1977 as a resident property manager for a Near North side apartment complex which had been placed in receivership. Within 6 months, occupancy went from 60% to 98% and the property was sold. In 1979 he joined the Cook County Assessor’s Office where he received certification for commercial property appraisal by the International Association of Assessing Officers.
In 1984 Mr. McKay joined Baird & Warner Commercial Investment Group after interviewing with all the major Real Estate Companies in Chicago. The “Corporate Group” was just evolving and Baird & Warner was building a team of commercial brokers that would transform this typically residential company to one equally respected in Commercial Real Estate. In 1991 Mr. McKay resigned as second most senior member of the Investment Division to form McKay Investment Realty, Inc., and since then has developed a sophisticated Brokerage and Management Company known for its Superior Service and Diverse Experience. Although the majority of Mr. McKay’s recent assignments have been dealing with troubled properties, he has equal experience with traditional sales and property management.
During his career, Mr. McKay has been involved in numerous transactions involving industrial, office, retail, land and apartment properties. He was appointed Exclusive Broker by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Grabil-Stoecher bankruptcy, and successfully sold the real estate portfolio of Office, Retail and Industrial buildings. Mr. McKay was also the single Real Estate Broker responsible for the sale of the Builders Plumbing Real Estate Portfolio located in 4 states, and has been quoted as an expert in respected trade journals.
Mr. McKay's dedication to each project and energy level to sustain until the deal is done, has enabled him to excel not only in concluding difficult Receiverships, but also in seeking out the right buyers for varied properties. He is a strong negotiator and his win-win approach has saved many deals that otherwise would not have been consummated.
Mr. McKay has lived in Chicago all his life. He is a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and St. Benedicts' College in Kansas.
