Relocating to a new city is a big step, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming.
I’m David Backholer, a licensed real estate broker based in Portland, Oregon. I specialize in helping out-of-state buyers make a confident, informed, and low-stress transition to life in the Pacific Northwest. Whether you’re relocating for work, lifestyle, retirement, or simply a fresh start, I understand what you're going through because I’ve done it myself, multiple times.
Originally from the UK, I relocated to the U.S. in 2002 where I lived in New York City as a consultant for Citigroup. In 2007, I settled in the Bay Area for a decade before making the move to Oregon. Those personal experiences, along with years of helping others relocate allow me to provide practical advice and clarity throughout the process.
Before becoming a full-time real estate professional, I spent nearly 20 years in the corporate consulting world, helping global companies solve complex challenges in marketing, analytics, and operations. Today, I use those same skills; strategic thinking, clear communication, negotiation, and data-driven insight, to help my clients buy and sell homes with confidence.
In addition to being a broker, I’m also a homeowner, landlord, and real estate investor. My wife and I own long-term and short-term rentals, and we’ve renovated multiple homes together. This hands-on experience gives me a deep understanding of what makes a good investment, how to spot potential in a property, and how to guide clients with both vision and practicality.
For relocation buyers, I offer a tailored, full-service approach: personalized tours (in-person or virtual), neighborhood insight that goes beyond what you’ll find online, and a clear, step-by-step plan to help you feel confident every step of the way. I’m calm under pressure, responsive, and always looking out for your best interests. I’ll provide practical advice on everything from neighborhoods and commute times to where to find the best coffee or dog park. I’ll be your guide, advocate, and go-to resource every step of the way.
Outside of work, I live in Northeast Portland with my wife and two rescue dogs. In my spare time, I love exploring local neighborhoods, and creating YouTube videos to help prospective buyers get a feel for Portland long before they arrive.
If you're considering a move to Oregon, I’d love to be your guide and advocate. Let’s make your transition a smooth one.
