I was referred to David by a mentor and friend who has an impeccable record of giving good advice. And his record is still intact.

I cannot imagine buying a home without the help of David. David is not just a real estate agent; he is a trusted advisor and a zealous advocate. My wife and I were first time homebuyers and new residents in DC. David's breadth of knowledge of the area and the market--ranging from Northern Virginia to DC to Maryland--and his patience make him an exceptional agent. He was able to evaluate the pros and cons of every neighborhood and every house, listen to our endless questions and provide sound guidance tailored to our goals. I am sure that it was not always easy going on marathon viewings on a Saturday or Sunday with our twin babies in tow, waiting on us at the next house because we went to a street by the same name in the wrong DC quadrant and once even in the wrong state, and watching us wrestle with indecision as we tried to make the perfect choice. But David never complained, always stayed positive and advocated for us. Added bonus: David "knows a guy (or woman)" for just about everything and is quick with a recommendation.

We hope to never need David's services again because we have our forever home, but, if the situation arose, he would be our first call. In the meantime, we plan to hit him up for recommendations on all our homeowner needs in the coming years.

This is the 3rd time I have used David (twice to buy a place, and this being the first time selling). The process was so seamless! In the best way, we mostly just texted and only needed to meet a couple times, with response time super quick and the lift on my part super low. I decided to sell in December, we got the place on the market in January, and the sale closed/check in hand in February! David has my full backing and trust!

I honestly believe that if I had not worked with David, I would not be a homeowner today. I literally closed today and while reflecting on what was a very quick yet challenging process, I am confident in my decision because I trust that David guided me well. After my first visit, I had decided not to pursue the condo that I now own. David then noticed a price drop and nudged me in case I wanted to reconsider. He was still looking out for me! I did reconsider and landed the condo! I think I got a great deal because David went to bat for me, from helping me negotiate with the seller to helping make sure that I took advantage of (or at least considered) the many homebuyer programs out there. I made it to this side of things with a great home and more money in the bank than I think I would have had I worked with someone else. David is incredibly skilled at what he does. I could not have asked for a better realtor to sell my home in historic Parkfairfax. From the first time our family met David, I was put at ease that we were in good hands with the sale of our house. I picked David because of his outstanding reputation - I was not disappointed.

His strengths that I saw were 1) knowledge of the local real estate market, 2) interpersonal skills, and 3) the ability to manage any issues that came up. As a result our house sold for more than 10% over the asking price! David priced the house in such a was as to encourage a bidding war, and it definitely worked!

David will be the first person I turn to I when I buy, or sell, another house.

I've rented in Washington, D.C. since 2014, and spent the last few years working remotely across the country. When my fiancé and I decided to move back to the city this spring, we knew were done renting.

We had a set budget to spend on a 2-bed, 2-bath condo in a competitive seller’s market. The same factors that make D.C. a special city make it an idiosyncratic place to buy; each block is different than the next and many of the building are 100+ years old. We needed someone who knew each neighborhood intimately and could help us navigate the entire process.

Dave came recommended by a past landlord of mine / friend of his. We had a lot of questions as first-time buyers — the first of which was whether to work with a realtor at all. Dave patiently explained why having an agent who represents you matters, and promised he’d be that guy for us. He would answer the phone and treat our first-time condo purchase like a multi-million dollar deal.

Dave was, indeed, That Guy. He was with us every step of the way, respecting our search parameters, pointing out the pros and cons of each option, and steering us clear of some of our weirder ideas. When we found a place just off Meridian Hill Park that was a touch out of budget, Dave sensed a bargain. He worked behind the scenes to put together a below-list offer that was accepted within hours, and guided us through a lightning-fast 16-day close.

We would never have ended up in this home without his help, and we can’t recommend him highly enough. If you want someone who knows D.C. and knows how to find your sweet spot in this bizarre market, you can do no better than David Shotwell.

I couldn't have asked for a better agent than David. I'm a first time home buyer, and David quickly and patiently answered all of my many questions. He was very reliable with appointments and deadlines and carefully observed Covid protocols. He was also a helpful sounding board as I made decisions, and during the buying process he negotiated several concessions from the seller, including a credit that I never would have thought to ask for. Since I bought my home, he has continued to make my life easier with contractor recommendations, consumer resource subscriptions, and the occasional paperwork or tax reminder.

When I first started thinking about buying, I assumed I wouldn't be able to afford a home in the area I lived in, but with David's help I was able to stay in my neighborhood, which I love. For that I will always be thankful.

I could not recommend David Shotwell more. I just closed on my dream home and it would not have happened without his deep knowledge of the market and current conditions and expert guidance and advice. When I spotted the house, I knew I wanted it but did not think I could get it in this hyper-competitive real estate market. David guided me through how to make the most appealing bid possible within my financial bounds. He explained all the factors that could make a difference besides the offer amount and crafted my bid to leverage all of them.
