Doug Gunter’s roots in North Idaho run as deep as the land itself. A fourth-generation
Sandpoint native, Doug comes from a family whose legacy is woven into the very fabric
of the community. His grandfather was born in a tent on the Gunter family farm in Sagle
— a farm that has been home to generations of Gunters and remains the heart of the
family to this day.

It was on this land, through 4-H, and in high school athletics that Doug learned the
values that still define him: hard work, integrity, dedication, and the importance of
relationships, family, and community. Today, Doug and his wife Kristine have come full
circle — building their dream home on the same family farm and raising their three fifth-
generation children there, continuing a legacy that spans more than a century.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Doug’s life reflects the North Idaho lifestyle he represents. He
is an avid hunter, motocross rider, snowmobiler, and lake enthusiast who treasures time
spent in the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountains and on beautiful Lake Pend Oreille. As his
children grow, Doug is deeply committed to introducing them to outdoor recreation,
hunting, 4-H, school sports, and any passion they choose to pursue.

Doug’s connection to real estate began early. Shortly after graduating high school, he
purchased his first property in Sagle — the start of a lifelong involvement in investing,
developing, and understanding the local market. While building a successful 17-year
career with Verizon Communications, Doug continued acquiring and managing
properties, developing a deep working knowledge of North Idaho real estate.

In 2016, Doug became a licensed real estate professional, initially representing friends
and family. Thanks to his extensive local network and a strong referral-based business,
his real estate career grew rapidly. In 2022, Doug retired from Verizon and became an
owner of Sandpoint Garage Doors, managing a team of 10 employees across sales,
installation, and service — all while continuing to expand his real estate practice. In late
2025, Doug made the decision to exit the garage door business to fully focus on his
true passion: real estate.

Today, Doug offers a level of service few agents can match — combining generational
local knowledge, a powerful network of trusted professionals, proven business
leadership, and clear, consistent communication throughout every step of the
transaction. His clients benefit not only from expert market guidance, but from an
advocate who genuinely understands the land, the lifestyle, and the community they
are buying into.
