My selection of a realtor was based on a referral from my relocation company. That's always taking a chance, but I knew immediately upon meeting him that Gary Hughes was a fantastic agent and the right person to help me find my home. As I had not lived here before, I wasn't sure if I wanted to be in DC or VA. Gary was knowledgeable of both areas, showing me numerous properties in DC, Arlington, and Alexandria. In looking at properties, Gary had a keen eye for detail, pointing out even the most minor of potential defects--something I highly valued. He also spelled out the important difference between buying in DC/MD versus VA. Gary Hughes made the entire process seem painless. If you are buying a house, considering buying a house, or you can spell the word house, do yourself a favor and call Gary. There is no way I would have gotten my home if not for him. There were multiple competing offers, including at least one higher than mine. Gary was persistent and personable, which is why I think that my lower offer was accepted. We ended up having the worst seller imaginable, but Gary not only kept the deal together but also made it smooth sailing on my end while he championed my interests and brought us to closing. When I accepted a new job in another State, there was a lot on my mind. The transition can be pretty stressful but, thanks to Gary, the process of selling my home was the least stressful part of my move. I knew I would need someone who would be able to pick up the ball and run with it with little involvement from me (since I would be out of the area). I met with several realtors and felt comfortable and confident with Gary. He was by far the most prepared of the realtors I met and was quick to respond to any inquiry. Gary did all the heavy lifting and although this was my first home sale, the process went smoothly. He was both pleasant and honest about our negotiations. He let me know where he felt we had leverage and where the buyer had leverage in the negotiation. This helped me to walk away from a couple of unreasonable offers, and also know when to give a little in my position. The house was sold after only 2 months on the market and most of that time we were negotiations with a buyer. I appreciate all that Gary did for me, and how well the process went.
