Jim is an entrepreneur with over 35 years of experience in the finance and investment industries, including both the public and private capital markets. He has acted as a founder, investor, and manager of many companies in diverse industries (including, among many others, energy, entertainment, financial services, healthcare, and technology), and has been involved with companies in virtually all stages of development and growth. Jim’s background and experience include involvement at the senior level in corporate finance, investment banking, and private equity/venture capital investing - including leveraged buyouts.
He has also been involved at the senior level in building money management/investment advisory companies from an early stage to multi-billion dollars of assets under management/advisory, and then achieving liquidity with these companies. During his involvement with these companies, Jim managed portfolios for institutions, and high-net-worth families and individuals including an Academy Award winning Best Actor and Best Actress.
Jim is a Founder and Chairman of KQM Entertainment Group, LLC, a company involved in various aspects of the entertainment industry including music publishing and film production. Jim holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker. He is also a licensed Nevada Real Estate Broker-Salesperson (including a Business Broker Permit) and is affiliated with ERA Brokers Consolidated in Nevada. He received his MBA degree from the University of Chicago and a BA degree from Claremont McKenna College. He also attended Franklin University Switzerland, an international university attended by students from throughout the world; and has lived in Switzerland, Brazil, and Italy. For many years, Jim was a member of the Board of Trustees and the Investment Committees of both Claremont McKenna College and Franklin University Switzerland and is a recipient of the Distinguished/Outstanding Service Awards from each institution.
Jim’s interests include wine collecting, tennis, and martial arts. He is an inductee into the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the Masters Hall of Fame, and a recipient of the Platinum Achievement Award from each organization. He is also an inductee into the Immortals Hall of Fame of the Association of Combat Fighting Arts as an “Immortal Warrior”, the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame and a recipient its Platinum Life Award, and an Ambassador and History General for the Sport Karate Museum. Jim is a co-host of the radio show “Parts Unknown with Professor Gary Lee” on the AMAA Masters Radio Network.
