My name is Jan Headen and I have been in Real Estate since 1992. I started in new home sales for a national builder, then worked for two custom home builders where I learned about quality construction, floor plans, and home design. I moved into general brokerage Real Estate in 2001 and absolutely love it!
I work with both buyers and sellers and am meticulous in my research for my buyers and diligent in my marketing for my sellers. The majority of my clients are referrals from past clients.
For sellers it’s first and foremost about determining the right price through a Competitive Marketing Analysis (CMA). Pricing too high or too low when first listing can shortchange a seller in the long run. Getting the home priced right from the beginning is always the goal.
Once the pricing strategy is determined, I then develop a marketing strategy to attract the right buyer for that particular home. Marketing a home in today’s environment requires proper staging, clear crisp photos, a great description, and a broad online presence.
For buyers it’s all about helping them determine a budget and then creating their “must have” list, whether it’s a large yard, one story living, a chef’s kitchen, an in-law suite, a cul de sac, or all of the above. I truly enjoy viewing homes with buyers and have shown up to 15 in one day! I never limit buyers to how many I’ll show them or how long we’ll keep looking. I never want them to settle for something they like, but don’t love. Buying a new home should be an exciting and happy time, and something to look forward to.
As for me, I grew up outside Buffalo, NY, then my family moved to Harrisonburg, VA, in 1977. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 1986 and moved to Maryland in 1988. I lived in Howard County and Federal Hill before moving to Harford County in 1992. I have a wonderful family, great husband, am member of Mountain Christian Church, and I miss our Springer Spaniel, MacKenzie. I'd love to hear your story when you're ready to make a move!
