Jim Cornelison is a native of North Carolina. He graduated from Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, North Carolina and attended Elon College in Burlington, North Carolina. He and his family have vacationed on the North Carolina coast since 1977. In 1979 while on a fishing trip to Topsail Island with friends, Jim noticed how beautiful the water surrounding the island was. The next year Jim and his wife Robin decided to bring their family to Topsail for vacation. After spending 2 weeks on the island for vacation, they decided this was the beach that they would continue to go to for relaxation, family fun, and casual atmosphere.

In 2003 Jim expanded his investments towards Topsail Island. He began buying property, and building beach homes. As the building experience began, Jim found himself learning more and more about why some beachfront properties are good, and some are not so good, and some cannot even be built on. His knowledge of dune structure, vegetation growth on the dunes, and building codes, along with North Carolina Federal and Non Federal Flood Zones became a huge lesson.
