About Joan
Joan Dougherty moved to New York City in 1988 and bought her first Manhattan co-op in 1991 as an 'insider', handling all the offering plan and mortgage documents herself, and ultimately selling the apartment for a substantial profit. When Joan and her family were searching for a larger home in 1998, she did extensive research and scoured the city to find the perfect place – a landmark townhouse in Greenpoint, Brooklyn which she renovated, preserving its original charm. Now, Joan is sharing her passion and enthusiasm for NYC real estate with her clients.
Familiar with the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens, and knowledgeable about zoning laws, building procedures and amenity options, Joan is a helpful guide in an often overwhelming process. As an executive recruiter for 25 years, she's a strong advocate and negotiator, and is highly skilled at helping clients achieve important dreams and goals. Joan knows how to ease people through life's major transitions and to make deals happen successfully.
Joan was raised in the Boston area but her family has strong roots in NYC; her maternal grandfather was Police Inspector in the 1920's and her parents met and married here. She studied Math, Business and Economics at Skidmore College. Joan believes in giving back to her community and was a member of the New York Junior League for nearly twenty years. She remains committed to her volunteer work for Skidmore College, Brooklyn community affairs and her church.
