John is a distinguished Realtor and civic leader in Virginia’s real estate industry, spanning over 48 years. Renowned for his integrity, leadership, and transformative impact, John has earned numerous accolades, including Realtor of the Year in 2017 and Civic Leader of the Year in 2024. He has been inducted into the Virginia REALTORS® Hall of Fame and the VCU Real Estate Circle of Excellence.
A fifth-generation real estate professional, John’s path was shaped early on by working alongside his father, a respected home builder. These formative years on construction sites instilled in him the hands-on expertise and business acumen that would define his career. He pursued Business Marketing at Virginia Commonwealth University before earning his real estate license in 1976.
Throughout his career, John has held various leadership roles, including serving as a broker managing the divestiture of residential and commercial assets for the U.S. Marshals Service in Virginia. He has completed over 2,500 transactions and once closed 27 deals in just 45 days—a testament to his tenacity and skill.
Today, John serves as the senior managing Broker of United Real Estate Richmond, the largest Black-owned real estate firm in Virginia. He is also a sought-after consultant in real estate investing and development. His expertise has been featured in Forbes, REO Insider, Real Estate Trends, RisMedia Real Estate, Metro Real Estate, and Richmond Magazine and broadcast on NBC, CBS, and PBS.
John’s service extends far beyond real estate. He has served as President of the Richmond Association of REALTORS® and the Central Virginia Regional MLS. He is a recipient of the prestigious Omega Tau Rho Medal for service to the REALTOR® organization.
Equally committed to community and civic engagement, John served on the Commonwealth Girl Scouts Council's Property Advisory Committee, the Virginia Committee for National Homeownership Strategies, and the Minority Business Affairs Committee of Virginia Housing. His leadership has also impacted organizations such as the Metropolitan Business League (Chairman), the McShin Foundation for Recovery (Chairman), Virginia Supportive Housing (Secretary), ACTS (Area Congregations Together in Service), the Beta Gamma Lambda Education Foundation, and the VCU Foundation Board of Trustees.
John lives in Bon Air, Virginia, with his wife, Lorri. He is a proud father of two sons: Antonio, who resides in Washington, D.C., and John III, who serves in the U.S. Army.
