A native of Cuba, Jorge has lived in the United States since 1961. Jorge served in the United States Army being stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Jackson, South Carolina and upon completion of his military duties he was honorably discharged. Mr. Fernandez began his collegiate studies at Miami-Dade Junior College; subsequently he transferred to the University of Florida, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (magna cum laude) and a Masters of Engineering Degree (summa cum laude). Later on, Jorge enrolled at the University of Miami Law School where he graduated Cum laude finishing in the top 8% of his graduating class. Jorge is admitted to practice law in Florida and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Mr. Fernandez has also been a General Contractor and developer, having successfully bought, built and sold many properties throughout Florida. Since 2002, Mr. Fernandez has served on the Board of Directors of Miami Behavioral Health Center, a non for profit organization dedicated to providing service to those amongst us that are affected with the co-occurrence of mental health and substance abuse disorders and since 2004 has been the Chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors. Since 2009, Mr. Fernandez has served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banyan Health Systems, a related group of behavioral and physical care providers that share a deep-seated commitment to excellence in its consumer services and operations. Since 2013, Jorge has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banyan Community Health Foundation, an organization that provides financial support to Banyan Health Systems.
