I was originially licensed as a real estate salesperson in 1971. This was between my junior and senior years at St Michael's in Vermont. My first transaction was the sale of a two family home on Cortland St in Albany. The sales price was $12,000 and my commission totaled $180.
After graduating in 1972 I went at real estate full time and have been loving it ever since. I have experienced many different real estate markets during my career. I remember when there were three types of morgage financing available: conventional, FHA, and VA. There were no mortgage bankers or brokers. Residential mortgage loans were obtained from savings banks or savings and loan institutions. If a bank was located in Albany County, they would make mortgage loans in Albany County. If you wanted to buy a home elsewhere you would have to visit a bank located there. I have seen extreme seller's markets and total buyer's markets. Would you believe that mortgage interest rates at one time were 19%! How about minimum downpayment requirements of 40%!.
During my 43 years in real estate I have come to realize this; if a salesperson dedicates themselves to providing uncompromising client service and stays in tune with the times they will allways be able to assist their clients in achieving their goals.
I learned a long time ago that. my major assets are honesty and persistence.I tell people the truth even if it's something they don't want to hear. I also won't let go of a task until it has been completed. Maybe that's why 99%of my listings sell!
