“You ain’t from around here,” as they say around Nashville. While that’s true, I’ve lived in Nashville for a lifetime now. My outside-in perspective of the area gives me a unique vision of life here.
I’m a seeker of Nashville’s uniqueness. I go to neighborhoods and weird places locals would never go.
I ride the bus when it makes sense (ask a Nashville native the last time they did that). I go to the downtown library. I love places that locals love. However, I love places they’ve never been to.
When it comes to real estate, I can look at a neighborhood without local assumptions and see what’s possible.
This curiosity came from growing up in five different places. I still say New Orleans and St. Louis are where I’m from.
As an adult, my wife and I moved three times before landing in Nashville. We thought we’d be here about three or four years. That was 30 years ago.
I know what it feels like to leave a place you love, and have to create a new home and life in an unfamiliar place. I remember what it was like leaving a city my family loved (New Orleans). Finding my footing in a new grade school (I went to three). I remember as an adult what it was like to find a dentist, a bank, a dry cleaner, a handyman. And a restaurant that was our hang.
Not being from around here, I believe I have a perspective of the uniqueness, quirkiness and greatness that is Nashville better than those who’ve lived here all their lives.
