About Kurt

As a third-generation homeowner on the Monterey Peninsula, Kurt Kodama brings his lifelong interest in real estate, drive to succeed and expertise developed in a corporate career spanning almost 30 years to the responsibility of representing clients in the purchase or sale of their luxury homes and estates.

"Kurt was born and raised in Monterey and understands the special appeal of each community in their area. He moved to Southern California to obtain an undergraduate degree from UCLA in economics and master’s degree from USC in business administration, and after earning his degrees, remained in Southern California to pursue a 27-year corporate career with Bank of America where he specialized in commercial real estate construction financing and then commercial real estate problem loan resolution.

Throughout my career, he honed his negotiation skills in high stakes and complex financing transactions which included some of Bank of America’s largest non-performing commercial real estate credit exposures and rose through the ranks of the organization. Kurt led a nationwide organization that resolved billions of dollars in problem commercial real estate construction financing in North America and that on occasion required the resolution of financing for jet aircraft, yachts, concourse quality automobile collections and jewels that were sold through the world’s most prestigious auction houses.

A few years ago, he retired from his corporate career and returned home to Monterey to help his aging parents. Through this experience, he understands caring for aging or ill parents while navigating the emotional and logistical difficulties of helping them sell the dream home they built and lived in for almost six decades.

In the past four years he has been through six buying or selling transactions of his own including the purchase and sale of what at the time was his vacation home in Pacific Grove and, after a long search, the purchase of what is now his primary home in Carmel. Through the experience he gained with his homes that he purchased, remodeled and sold in Southern California, along with the homes he has owned or now own on the Monterey Peninsula, he understands the general issues that exist when purchasing/remodeling a home and the specific ones that can exist due to restrictions in the area.

In his spare time, you will find him working with the professionals and construction trades who are helping him remodel his home in Carmel, curating a modest collection of art, sculpture, decorative art and furniture that he has assembled over the last three decades through purchases made at major auction houses in the United States and Europe, as well as enjoying the Monterey Peninsula’s world-renowned natural beauty; dining and recreation activities.”
