Mark Powell

Mark Powell is the Co-Founder and Owner of Discovery Property Group, Inc., an independent real estate brokerage in San Diego, California. Currently, Mark is San Diego Association of Realtors "Vice President" and serves on the International Committee. Previously, Mark served on the San Diego Association of Realtors Political Action Committee and on the Board of Directors. Apart from ensuring the success of his brokerage, in 2009 Mark was the Chairman of the Educational Services Advisory Committee for the California Association of Realtors. Mark is also a member of several prominent organizations in the real estate industry, including the National Association of Realtors and California Association of Realtors. Mark Powell has been recognized as the "2014 REALTOR® Of the Year" by the San Diego Association of REALTORS®. With more than 20,000 members and affiliates, the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors is the largest trade association in San Diego County. Mark was also named a Five Star Real Estate Agent Professional and has received this award for the 10th year in a row. Fewer than 5% of the agents in the area are given this award. The selection is the result of a rigorous research process that included a regulatory and consumer complaint review, and an evaluation of objective criteria associated with those who provide quality services to their clients. Mark is an active volunteer with J*Company Youth Theater, a community leader and is the President of the La Jolla Sunrise Rotary. Mark was elected to the San Diego County Board of Education from 2017-2020 where he represented over 650,000 constituents. The San Diego County Office of Education serves San Diego County’s most vulnerable students, and supports school leaders, teachers, and students across the county. This included nearly 780 schools and more than 500,000 students, 42 school districts, 124 charter schools, and five community college districts in the county. Mark Powell has 25 years of hands-on education experience as a classroom teacher, vice principal and dean of students with the San Diego Unified School District and the Santee School District. Powell is currently an Adjunct University Professor teaching graduate-level courses in teacher education for National University and the owner of Discovery Property Group, Inc., a Real Estate Company in San Diego. Powell has 20 years of experience managing large budgets, both as a business owner and as a vice principal. As a former reserve police officer, Powell is committed to keeping our children's schools safe and free from bullying. Mark Powell is a lifelong San Diegan who attended San Diego Unified schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating from Madison High School in 1979. Powell is married and the proud father of two daughters who attend San Diego Unified schools.
