About Marty

Born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Marty grew up as the son of a professional horse trainer and rodeo cowboy. Having attended five different grammar schools (two in the LA area of Southern California, one in the Panhandle of Nebraska, and two in the Phoenix Arizona area), he spent his first year of High School in Scottsdale but graduated from Rushville, Nebraska, engaging in sports and high school rodeos throughout the state. Despite living in Rushville for the shortest period, Marty considers the small Nebraska town his hometown.

Upon high school graduation, Marty pursued studies in computer programming and electronics at what is now DeVry University in Phoenix, Arizona. However, he soon caught the real estate bug and began working for his uncle’s firm, specializing in land sales. Although Marty felt that his true calling was radio broadcasting at the time, he enjoyed a twenty-year tenure (both full and part-time) as a Morning Show DJ (Marty in the Morning), Program Director, and Advertising Executive.

In the eighties, Marty met and married his former wife, moved to Rapid City, briefly operated a retail gift shop in Keystone, and worked in the financial services industry selling insurance and securities. Leaving broadcasting in April of 2000 for a renewed career in real estate was a challenging decision at the time but proved to be the right one in hindsight. Throughout his many years in the business, Marty has been involved in various aspects of real estate, serving as the Sales Manager at his former firm, engaging in commercial real estate and business brokerage, along with residential sales. He holds the designations of GRI (Graduate of the Realtors Institute) and SRS (Seller’s Representative Specialist), has served the Black Hills Association of Realtors as a board member, including President in 2021, and is currently an Executive Officer for the South Dakota Realtors.

Marty is married and the father of three grown children, he has fourteen blended grandchildren. He still occasionally competes in roping events with his father and son, attends church at Christ Church, plays golf, and has an enjoyable time as much as he can. Choosing Marty as the Broker to buy or sell with will not only be the right decision but, based on his experience, may also prove to be an entertaining one.
