About Paul
Paul grew up in the Mason County area of the Upper Satsop Valley north of Elma, Washington, where his grandfather owned a 40-acre ranch on Cougar Smith Road. His childhood was filled with fishing, photography, and racing around the backroads of Matlock in old clunker cars. Summers were spent cutting firewood with two his best friends to earn gas money, car parts, and photography gear.
Paul’s passion for photography began in the 9th grade at Mary M. Knight High School, when his father loaned him an old Rollei 35mm camera for a photography class—an heirloom he still keeps today.
After graduation, he followed the path of many in his community by working in the timber industry as a choker setter. In the woods, he learned both the meaning of hard work and the skills necessary to operate heavy equipment ranging from skidders to bulldozers. His close friends, who became timber fallers, taught him the art of cutting timber, and for years he worked the forests of Mason and Grays Harbor counties.
As the timber industry began to change, Paul knew he needed to chart a new path. In 1994, he transitioned into real estate, drawn by the opportunity to work for himself while serving his community. That decision set the foundation for a long-term, successful career that continues to this day.
