In September 2000, Sarah relocated from Ottawa, Canada, to Chapel Hill to begin her career in the USA.
She is now a dual citizen and has been actively involved in professional and philanthropic activities in North Carolina and beyond for over 20 years. Sarah obtained a Master's Degree of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from UNC Chapel Hill and had a fulfilling medical career. She started as a Nurse Recruiter for UNC Hospitals and became the first Nurse Practitioner in the Level 1 Trauma Center, Emergency Department at UNC Hospitals. She was the Medical Consultant at Durham Academy, a private K-12 school.
Sarah's entrepreneurial drive and pursuit of the "American Dream" led her to establish two businesses in Chapel Hill. In 2022, she merged her competitive swim club into the North Carolina Aquatic Club. Additionally, her non-profit, Carolina Swims Foundation, has provided swim lessons to over 750 underserved children and children in foster care in North Carolina to prevent drownings.
Sarah is a committed public speaker for cancer awareness and water safety initiatives.
Sarah and her husband are proud parents to three boys and three dogs, including their dog, Fergus, an AKC
Grand Champion English Mastiff Show dog. Their children attend public schools (East Chapel Hill High
School, Guy Phillips Middle School, and previously Rashkis Elementary) and IMG in Bradenton, Florida.
Sarah will serve as the PTSA President for East Chapel Hill High School in the fall of 2025. Sarah and her family
are actively involved in various sports and musical activities in the community. Sarah is also a published author of a children's picture book series, titled “Pepperoni Cookies, Fearful Fergus
Learns to Try “ and “Sea Star Cookies, Fearful Fergus Learns Water Safety.”
