About Selena
For 23 years, I lived in New York City. It was where I grew up as an adult, where I built my career, made lifelong friends, and learned to hustle. I worked in legal technology at top law firms, climbing my way up from paralegal to leadership roles. New York gave me drive, confidence, and grit.
But deep down, I always wanted to be a mom. And when the time finally came to start that journey, I realized something: New York might not be the right place to raise my child. I wanted my child to have more space, fresh air, and a slower pace of life, but without losing the diversity, energy, and culture that I loved about NYC.
At first, I tried to make New York work. I even bought a house in Brooklyn. But the long commutes, high costs, and constant stress started to take over my life. Then came the pandemic. Everything stopped and everything changed. I started working from home and proved I could do my job from anywhere.
That’s when I decided that maybe it was time to move back to North Carolina. But after so many years away, Charlotte felt like a brand-new city. I didn’t know where to live, how the neighborhoods compared, or what would fit my lifestyle. I made the classic mistake and I tried to treat Charlotte like New York.
I moved uptown because I thought it would be like Manhattan. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. I still needed a car, and even though the apartment was bigger, it didn’t give me the things I truly wanted which was a yard, space to breathe, and a real sense of community.
After a year, I became pregnant and knew I had to make a change. I stopped trying to make Charlotte feel exactly like New York and started looking for what actually mattered to me: good schools, a great neighborhood, and a home that supported the life I wanted to build.
That’s when I found my current neighborhood. It’s the perfect mix of suburban peace and city access.
I finally had a home that gave me space, comfort, and balance, without feeling disconnected from everything I love. That experience changed everything for me.
I saw how hard it can be to relocate even when you think you know what you’re doing. And I realized that there are other families that also feel overwhelmed, unsure, and afraid of making the wrong move. Now, I use everything I’ve learned from navigating high-stakes NYC life to starting over in Charlotte to help other professional families do the same, but with less stress and more clarity.
If you’re dreaming of a fresh start in Charlotte, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
I help professional families who feel overwhelmed by relocating to Charlotte find their dream home in their dream Charlotte neighborhood.
