Shannan entered the profession of real estate at the beginning of one of the most unstable economies in the nation’s history: the Great Recession. Other real estate agents were exiting the market by the hundreds, unable to earn a living in such a difficult climate. But she was freshly-minted, with no expectation of how things were “supposed to be.” She had children to support, and she was willing to work with the way things were.
It was in those uncertain waters that she learned to walk. And then she learned to run. In time, Shannan has become one of the very best Realtors® in the area. For her, each new client created an opportunity for growth and gratitude. She worked hard, and then she worked harder. And hard work worked. She was helping people, and they referred new people in return. She loved it!
That sense of gratitude, with a focus on honor and respect for her clients and her community, has served her well. Shannan’s practice grew and flourished. She stayed with her first company for 9 years, moved, then co-owned a small office in downtown Bremerton. Then, 2020 and Covid came along – and with it, the birth of Adept Real Estate, born of all that history and experience. In the Great Recession, she succeeded because she believed she could. Today, she still carries that belief, and now it is backed up by proof. Her understanding of her clients’ needs, her negotiating skills, her follow-through, and her attention to detail are infused with the qualities that have made her successful from the beginning: gratitude, honor and respect.
There are a lot of elements that go into building a stable community, and one of the most important is creating opportunities for people to put down roots there. The foundation that holds up a house holds up a community, so moving people from the temporary condition of renting to the rooted stability of homeownership is essential. For years, in conjunction with Community Frameworks, a local non-profit, she invested her time, experience, gratitude, honor, and respect to help people purchase homes who might not otherwise have been able to afford it. Those new homeowners can now feel committed to their community because they do not just live there anymore; they own homes there. Today, her vision is to create new homes and new homeownership opportunities for mortgage-ready, working people who make less than the area median income.
Shannan sometimes has to pinch myself when she thinks about how blessed she is to be the mother of her two (now young adult) children. She is grateful for their presence and their love; she honors their individual ways of being in this world, and she respects the paths they are choosing for their lives. They are both gifted artists and deep thinkers. Most of all, they are kind and profoundly concerned about the well-being of others. Shannan’s oldest is also a Realtor® and has joined Adept Real Estate as her field agent. He brings his compassion, intellect, and good humor to the job, to the delight of their clients. Her youngest is pursuing an education that will pave the way to teach, enlighten and befriend the world. They are truly her best friends, and she leans into them for their wisdom and insights.
Shannan is blessed with the love of a man she loves dearly. He supports her in everything she pursues, and she supports him. They are a team, and life is just a whole lot more lovely with him in it.
Shannan is a gardener and a landscaper. She believes there is nothing more strenuous and yet more gratifying than beautifying her own yard. Designing it, then installing hardscape, preparing the soil, and planting the seeds. It’s a past time that brings joy to every season for her.
The Olympic Mountains are always calling her, but she only answers in summer. Shannan loves going on short overnight hikes with her dogs. The rest of the world is also calling her… and she plans to travel as much as possible, soon! Diverse cultures and different cuisines are a whole new realm that she cannot wait to explore.
While it’s easy to count success in the real estate profession by the number of transactions completed, what fills Shannan’s heart is to think of all the friendships that have come from it. The community is her home, and she loves encountering friends wherever she goes.
