She received a BA with Distinction from the University of Virginia. After college, she worked in banking and marketing before landing upon the career that best complements her outgoing personality. She grew up in and still lives in Richmond's near west end. She has been married for 35 years to Basil, also a UVA graduate, who is with US Trust. They have a son, Basil III, who graduated from UVA and a daughter, Carrington, who graduated with a master's degree from James Madison University. Susan is an avid gardener and enjoys sports of all kinds, especially fitness training, swimming, and cycling. She and her family love spending summer vacation in Maine each year. A lifelong member of St. Stephen's Church, she is also a member of the Tuckahoe Garden Club and the Garden Club of America.
