Some time ago, when Tim Walters and his friend were studying at the University of Minnesota, they decided to begin investing in real estate. The first property they were sold was a disaster. The furnace needed replacing; the radiators were cracked; they paid, it turned out later, more than 25% over the home’s market value; and on top of that, they were lumped with an outstanding water bill of $3,000. They took the experience as an education. From then on, they made sure to uncover every stone necessary to never be caught out like that again. Soon after, it occurred to him that there were scores of buyers out there who might be led astray as easily as they had been. Tim believed, just as he does today, that every buyer deserved to feel confident in the investment they were making as they searched for a new home.
