A growing forested suburb just east of Atlanta
Redan is a large suburban area just 25 minutes east of Atlanta. The forested community provides a stark, peaceful contrast to the nearby bustling city. The community is filled with parks and plenty of ways to spend time outside, alongside Jamaican cuisine, which can be enjoyed at several local restaurants. Paired with the growth seen in the construction of new homes, Redan is a prime choice for those who want the option of peaceful home life with plenty to explore in reach. “Redan is pretty relaxed. It’s laid back,” Says Georgia Thomspon, a realtor with Virtual Properties Realty who has sold many homes in the community and has over two decades of experience in the area. “It’s not a big nightlife area. It’s more of a family-oriented community. I’d say it’s a great place for families or older people.”

Redan's variety of home styles
Residential streets break off Redan’s winding roads, each surrounded by mature oak and maple trees alongside lush greenery, providing a scenic feel throughout the suburban sprawl setting. Lining these streets are well-kept lawns filled with modest landscaping and sidewalks that are present along many of the community’s avenues. Ranch and split-level-style homes are atop the equally sized lots alongside brick townhouses built in the 1970s and 1980s. Within the last few years, new traditional-style dwellings have also been constructed. Many of these homes sit at the end of cul-de-sacs and feature driveways large enough for two vehicles, though some residents park along the street. Depending on size and condition, those looking to purchase a home in the area can expect a price range from $200,000 to $500,000. “You get a lot of house and yard space for the price,” says Thompson. “The prices are definitely competitive for the Atlanta area.

Marching band success at Redan High School
When it’s time for class, young students will head to Redan Elementary School and Redan Middle School, both of which maintain a C-minus score on Niche. The middle school participates in the Edulog Parent Portal, allowing parents to receive live bus route information for their students. Meanwhile, older students will attend Redan High School, which also has a C-minus on Niche. The Raiders house the Blue Thunder Marching Band, one of the largest in Georgia. They remain the only marching band to win the VH1 Save The Music Battle of the Bands twice and have even been featured in the movie “Drumline.”

Quick commutes to downtown Atlanta
Residents commuting into downtown Atlanta can expect a 16.6-mile commute via I-20 west. Those traveling from the area can reach their flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport along a 23.4-mile trip on I-285 South. Meanwhile, classes at Georgia Piedmont Technical College sit 8.5 miles away off US-278 West, and Emory Hollandale Hospital is a shorter 4.8-mile drive along Panola Road.
Local Jamaican cuisine
Area residents enjoy easy access to nationally recognized chains such as Kroger, Planet Fitness and Aldi, each toward the south, off Covington Highway. When it comes to eating out, Jamaican food is the cuisine of choice in Redan, and there are several independent restaurants to choose from. Fireside and D&M Jamaican Cuisine are just two local favorites for traditional Caribbean fare such as oxtails, jerk chicken and plantains. Residents will have to leave the community to reach big-name retailers. However, a Walmart Supercenter sits conveniently just 4 miles south.

After-school programming at Redan Park
Time outside is spent at the Redan’s namesake park, where residents head for a round of disc golf, a tennis match or to catch a little league baseball game. Redan Recreation Center also offers indoor programming for locals, seen in line dancing events and a Boys and Girls Club after-school program. Those taking their furry friends for a walk head to the east side to enjoy strolls along the wooded trails of Biffle Park, which also offers a spacious playground for the little ones.
The new Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United teams.

During the holidays, the little ones can get their faces painted at the Christmas Party held at the Redan Recreation Center. Children can enjoy a breakfast with Santa alongside live performances, giveaways and more. Residents can buy tickets to see the Falcons play at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium due to its proximity to downtown Atlanta.
Stone Mountain Park
Sitting just north of the community is one of Georgia’s most visited tourist attractions, Stone Mountain Park. The 3,200-acre park features Stone Mountain, the world’s largest granite formation, with views of downtown Atlanta atop its peaks. Visitors can also practice their swings in miniature golf, ride a cable car and catch a laser show that’s projected on the side of the mountain. Visitors should keep in mind that the parking lot can fill up quickly and typically comes with an adjoined fee.
