Other well-attended events include Concerts in the Park, the Lions Club Steak and Lobster Fest, Unwined and the holiday tree lighting ceremony. Throughout the year, it is the perfect place for a casual day of play or just a relaxing moment to take in the great outdoors.
For intense hiking, biking or nature watching, Jerome Huppert Woods and the Forest Preserves of Cook County deserve a visit. For golf enthusiasts, The Oak Park Country Club provides an 18-hole course for you to perfect your backswing. The country club’s gorgeous greens and pristine lakes are more reasons to appreciate all the greenspaces River Grove has to offer its residents.
Elmwood Elementary and John Mills Elementary are two public primary schools in the community that feed into Elm Middle School, with each institution earning B-minus overall grades from Niche. Elmwood Park High boasts a B-plus average Niche score, with teacher and diversity earning the highest praise. Graduates looking to continue their education can stay in River Grove and attend Triton College, a public community college offering 150 degree and certificate programs. On the college’s grounds is the renowned Cernan Earth & Space Center, a public planetarium named after the famed astronaut Eugene Cernan.

Wash down your meal with their much-talked-about mocktails or cocktails. There are nearly a dozen open-air shopping centers in the area for all of your retail needs, including Thatcher Woods Center. This retail hub houses anchor stores such as Ross Dress for Less, Walgreens and Rich’s Fresh Market, which offers fresh and organic produce and spices for your everyday cooking and pantry necessities.
Since River Grove is merely 35 minutes from Chicago by car, commuting to and from the village for work or recreation is quick and easy via Interstate 290.
