A home for helping hands
Genesee-Jefferson is a mile outside of Downtown Rochester, squeezed between 19th Ward and Plymouth-Exchange on the bank of the Genesee River. Financially accessible housing fill the neighborhood while local businesses line the streets on the outside. Here, locals enjoy walks along the river in the south, sample foods from local Jamaican restaurants or participate in festivities downtown, all while living in a neighborhood that values togetherness and charity. "A lot of our visitors are housed people trying to make ends meet, seniors living on Social Security and veterans in the community who just need help getting a hot meal or groceries." Bob Boyd, Interim Executive Director of the local Saint Peter's Kitchen. Boyd has worked in the community for many years and helps operate many of its resources. "It warms your heart seeing people helping each other. Recently, I saw a young fellow volunteering with us to help a man with trouble moving down the stairs. Little things like that are thankfully a common sight."

There are quite a few bars and restaurants but they are a good 2 - 6 miles away from where I live. From what people have told me, those areas are very lively and bohemian in their functions.
