Small businesses, local restaurants and residential homes flank Huntingdon Pike in the center of Rockledge, a borough on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The thoroughfare is the main artery of the community, linking those at either end of Rockledge with everything in between. “Rockledge is a borough wedged between the Philadelphia city limits and Abington,” says James M. Walsh, an associate broker with Re/Max Access who has sold in Rockledge for over 30 years and now lives in the area. “It’s really laid-back and quiet – only about a thousand houses and maybe 2,500 people. It’s a place people aspire to get to when leaving the city.” Rockledge has a tight-knit community, which gathers to take part in events put on by local organizations. “It has its own independent government, police force and fire company,” Walsh says. “It’s like something out of middle America from 50 or 100 years ago – you kind of feel like you’re going back in time a little bit.” Rockledge also offers a wide variety of architecture, proximity to large parks and a commute of less than 20 miles to Philadelphia’s Center City. Locals are also drawn to the Abington School District, which serves the area and receives
