Nautical living in Greater Pinellas Point

Located in the southernmost section of St. Petersburg and bordered by Tampa Bay, the Greater Pinellas Point neighborhood is a sleepy borough that offers waterfront views and an active outdoor lifestyle. The area includes eight parks, with over 140 acres of green space. And those who yearn for the life aquatic are in luck here. “People move here because it’s close to the water,” says Brittany Ranew, a Realtor with Sotheby’s International Realty. “Residents get water access, and people like to kayak and fish. Beyond that, you’re also super close to the beach.”

Plenty of parks to explore

Area parks specialize in water-related activities, such as Pinellas Point Park and Bay Vista Park, all well-known spots for boating, kayaking and fishing. Lake Vista Recreation Center in Lake Vista Park is an outdoor fitness and recreation center with walking trails, tennis and basketball courts and a skate park. The park is situated along a lake and includes a dog park. Forrest Bluff Park on 65th Avenue also has wide green spaces and is great for walks. Additional seaside views emerge at Katherine B. Tippetts Park, Bay Vista Park and Dell Holmes Park, about 4 miles away. These are the spots to catch the sunset or reel in a large-mouthed bass. Maximo Park is 70 acres of waterfront outdoor recreation, with seven boat ramps, a disc golf course, playground, a beach and picnic shelters. Visitors can learn about the Native Americans who once lived here, through educational signs scattered throughout the park.

Getting around

Greater Pinellas Point is about a 10-minute drive from Downtown St. Pete, making it convenient for commuters and those who want to live close to the action without being right in the middle of it. The main thoroughfare to travel through St. Petersburg is Interstate 275, which conveniently routes drivers to the many schools and other major cities within the Tampa Bay area. Some neighborhoods serve as throughways for people who are just passing through on their commutes, but for the most part Pinellas Point is almost entirely residential, so there's little through traffic. On the flip side, there aren’t any bus stops in the neighborhood. “There isn’t really a walkability factor here,” says Ranew. “You will need a car to get around.”

Home prices can range from $110,000 to $4.75 million depending on home style, size and proximity to the water.
