Family-oriented neighborhood six miles from St. Pete
If location is key, residents of St. Petersburg's Meadowlawn neighborhood are pretty happy about theirs. This nature-heavy neighborhood is dotted by lakes and ponds and located about six miles from downtown. The location is one reason why Jason Shoopak set up Ninja Academy of Martial Arts in the neighborhood about five years ago. "It's a really good central location between north and south St. Petersburg, and multiple neighborhoods around the area," Shoopak says. Locals enjoy all that the city has to offer, yet they can stay close to home for parks, a youth baseball league, an above-average elementary school and a library. "Some of my clients say they love the neighborhood," says Shoopak, a lifelong St. Petersburg resident. "They say it's very family-oriented."
Updated, midcentury ranch homes in Meadowlawn
Single-family homes make up most of the housing stock in Meadowlawn, and low-lying midcentury ranch houses are abundant. While many are older, they tend to be well-maintained, and homebuyers don't have to pay a premium for updated interiors. Two- to four-bedroom properties are priced between $250,000 and $700,000. In true ranch style, many homes come with carports big enough for one vehicle. Many sit on generous amounts of land, with a median lot size of 7,405 square feet. While many streets don't have sidewalks, they do tend to have cover from the sun with lots of mature trees.
Playground near the water at Meadowlawn Park
Small lakes and ponds are scattered across Meadowlawn, creating safe havens for wildlife. Lynch Lake Park is a popular spot for bird watching and seasonal fishing. Kids enjoy a view of the water from the swing set at Meadownlawn Park, while parents can relax on the benches. The park also has an open stretch of grass, allowing for sports, games and picnics. Kids can participate in the Fossil Park Youth Baseball League at the fields located just east of the neighborhood.
