Wasatch Hollow gets its name from its location near the base of the Wasatch Mountains and 5 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. This hilly neighborhood has a variety of single-family homes with front lawn gardens and tree-shaded sidewalks lined with decorations like stones. People can easily walk to parks and the 15th and 15th shopping district at the neighborhood’s center. “The old homes here come with beautiful views of the Wasatch Mountains, and they’re within walking distance of 15th and 15th, one of the best places to shop in the city,” says Julie Livers, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, who has lived in the area for two decades. The neighborhood is 2 miles from the nearest highway, Interstate 80, and people prefer to get around the neighborhood by walking or biking. “People who live here don’t want to drive; they like to walk everywhere,” says Brian Babb, a Realtor with Equity Real Estate who has been selling homes in the area for nearly a decade. “It’s a very walkable neighborhood, very peaceful and quiet.”

In the heart of Wasatch Hollow is the 15th and 15th, a small shopping district woven in seamlessly with the residential area. Here, Tulie Bakery serves coffee in small, white porcelain cups with matching plates and breakfast snacks like croissants and quiche, and across the street is Mazza, a Middle Eastern spot with indoor and outdoor seating. People visit the contemporary 15th Street Gallery next door for jewelry, artwork and décor, and local grocer Harmons Emigration Market has been serving the Salt Lake community since 1932.

“Wasatch Hollow has a mix of styles, like bungalows and Tudors,” Babb says. “The homes are super cool.” One-story homes, like early 1900s bungalows, Tudors and Craftsman houses, line Wasatch Hollow’s streets. Prices range between $550,000 and $2 million, depending on acreage, age and renovations. Some properties have steep gable roofs and chimneys, while others have colorful front doors. Grassy front lawns sit behind wide sidewalks, and paved driveways are long enough to reach backyards.

Well-regarded schools near Wasatch Hollow
Children can attend Uintah Elementary, which earns an A from Niche, before advancing to Clayton Middle, which receives an A-minus and is known for its student-led theatre program. Kids may transition to B-rated East High, which Niche ranks No. 5 for best public high school in Utah. The Disney Channel movie “High School Musical” was filmed at East High. Rowland Hall is a K-12 private school 2 miles north. It opened as St. Mark’s Grammar School in 1867 Neighborhood churches include the Wasatch Presbyterian Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has multiple locations nearby.

Walking through the Wasatch Hollow Preserve
The 11-acre Wasatch Hollow Preserve is filled with patches of purple and white wildflowers on grassy fields. It has two trails; the South Loop allows dogs, while the North Loop does not. Laird Park is a small pocket park outside the northeastern corner of Wasatch Hallow, with a playground, a sand pit and picnic benches. Sugar House Park is less than 2 miles south and is the biggest park in Salt Lake City at 110 acres. The park includes a paved trail, pavilions, athletic fields and the Sugar House Garden Center, a banquet hall. Bonneville Golf Course offers people a public 18-hole course and surrounding Wasatch Mountain views less than 2 miles away. Jack’s Peak Trailhead is a popular hiking spot 3 miles away. It can take one to three hours to complete the entire trail, which sits at an elevation of 1300 feet.

Daily commutes via Foothill Drive
Drivers hop on 1300 South, which leads to Foothill Drive, the area's main artery. It links the area to the University of Utah and many nearby hiking destinations, like Jack’s Peak Trailhead. For longer commutes, people can hop on Interstate 80, which runs east and west, or use U.S. Route 89, which goes north and south directly into downtown Salt Lake City 8 miles away. The Utah Transit Authority has a public light rail and bus service with stops on 1500 East that bring commuters to downtown Salt Lake City and surrounding areas. People who work closer to the neighborhood can easily bike or walk on its wide sidewalks and bike lanes. The Salt Lake City International Airport is 13 miles away. Four miles north, the CommonSpirit Holy Cross Hospital and the University of Utah Hospital have 24-hour medical centers.
