Avenida Guadalupe Association aids economic development
West of downtown San Antonio, Avenida Guadalupe is a vibrant neighborhood with economic development programs supported by the Avenida Guadalupe Association. In the early 20th century, this neighborhood was a cultural hub for the city's Mexican-American community. Unfortunately, the area saw a steady economic decline until the 1980s, when the Avenida Guadalupe Association partnered with the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Development Agency to bring vast revitalization efforts to the neighborhood. The project restored local businesses, community centers and churches and introduced the Plaza Guadalupe, now the neighborhood's commercial and cultural hub. The project brought new life and a sense of community spirit, and the organization continues to support the neighborhood with historic building renovations, workforce training programs and events celebrating Mexican-American culture.
