Inner Sunset was largely developed during the 1920s and 1930s, featuring its distinctive Marina-style homes. These modest residences, featuring bay windows and 1920s craftsmanship, usually have large, front-facing windows that flood their interiors with natural light. Some homes have large backyards, but front yards and patios are scarce. Single-family homes range from $1.5 million to $2.5 million, although some luxury remodels can sell for upwards of $3 million. Numerous condos are available in the area, priced between $1 million and $1.8 million. “It’s a very competitive market,” says Realtor Shannon Hughes of Compass Real Estate, who lives in the neighborhood. “Convenience and walkability are key factors, and it’s right next to Golden Gate Park.”

Inner Sunset is served by the San Francisco Unified School District, which offers families the flexibility of school choice rather than address-based assignments. “This part of the city has very highly rated schools,” Hughes says. “It’s a big draw.” Alice Fong Yu Alternative Elementary School is a popular choice among families, known for strong academic programs and community involvement. A.P. Giannini Middle School and Independence High School are also located nearby.
