Located about 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles, the City of Santa Clarita is in Northern Los Angeles County. It’s the third largest city in the county, with neighborhoods and homes sprawling through a mountainous landscape. Prospective homebuyers can find townhomes in the more populated communities and spacious ranch houses on the city’s outskirts, all within a reasonable distance of the town center.
Since Santa Clarita was incorporated in 1987, there has been a focus on offering recreational facilities and programs. The recreation center in Canyon Country offers an aquatic park and Olympic-sized swimming pools, perfect for the hot, dry days of summer. Home development has seen a steady increase in the area, with beautiful townhomes springing up in all of the city’s neighborhoods. Many of the homes overlooking the canyons of Los Angeles County are in gated communities, complete with communal pools and residential security. The city is located just off of Interstate 5 for quick commuter access to downtown L.A. There are five school districts serving Santa Clarita, as well as three local colleges and universities. People from all over the state come to visit Six Flags Magic Mountain, a nearby theme park in Ventura County, known for its exciting roller coasters. While Santa Clarita is on the northern tip of the San Fernando Valley, it still offers easy access to the California coast and Malibu via the many canyon highways.
The number one employer in the area is Six Flags Magic Mountain, offering both full-time jobs and seasonal work. The second largest employer is Princess Cruises, one of the largest cruise ship companies in the world. The company’s headquarters are based in Santa Clarita, though the ships operate worldwide. Several industrial companies create a number of jobs in the area as well, including Aerospace Dynamics International and Woodward HRT. Quest Diagnostics, providing medical laboratory services, and Boston Scientific, a medical supply company, also have reasonably large presences in the area.
