An established, conveniently located neighborhood on the Sarasota waterfront
Vamo, a small residential neighborhood dotted by historic homes, offers active coastal living in an established but growing community conveniently located on the calm waters of Little Sarasota Bay. “It’s close to everything,” says Michael Johnson, a Realtor with Exit King Realty in nearby Venice. “It’s roughly equidistant between Siesta Key and Venice Beach, and you have your kayaking and all the watersports there in Vamo.” The community was founded in the 1920s, and the initial development included 13 homes on what is now Vamo Drive. Built in the popular Spanish style of the time, those homes still stand today, many partially hidden by the native foliage. Yet contemporary amenities are all around. The Tamiami Trail provides access to retail and dining and makes Gulf Coast travel a breeze.
More than 100 years of construction and still growing
While the historic Spanish-style homes are a highlight, they are but a small part of the housing available in the neighborhood. Most of the traditional housing was built between the 1950s and 1980s and consists primarily of single-story ranch-style homes. Newer construction includes small to mid-size contemporary-style homes. “It’s a nice little area that’s going through gentrification,” says Johnson. “A lot of investors are going in there, buying up the homes and fixing them up. Younger couples are buying homes and fixing them up, too.” Being on the waterfront side of U.S. Highway 41, also known as Tamiami Trail, helps elevate property values. The average home price is just under $500,000. “It’s West of Trail, so the prices are only going to skyrocket from there,” says Johnson. Larger homes incorporating a diversity of architectural styles can be found in the neighborhood’s gated communities, including Portofino on the Bay and Fisherman’s Bay. Multi-family alternatives include Pelican Cove, a sprawling 55-plus community whose more than 700 residences include condominiums and attached homes. It comprises six informal neighborhoods over 75 acres and bills itself as a “serene, botanical setting.” It offers three clubhouses and a pool among its amenities, features walking paths surrounded by lush landscaping and is home to a bird sanctuary. The Meridian at the Oaks Preserve offers mid-rise waterfront condominiums that feature vaulted ceilings in layouts between 2,000 and 3,700 square feet. Park East Club is a 55-plus mobile home park conveniently nestled between the Westfield Sarasota Square mall and the Plaza at Palmer Ranch.

Retail and dining options abound along the Tamiami Trail corridor
Few neighborhoods enjoy greater convenience. Not only do residents have access to all that waterfront living has to offer, but an array of retail and dining options is close by. The aforementioned Westfield Sarasota Square mall is one of the region’s biggest commercial centers. Featured among its businesses are Costco, JC Penny and an AMC 12 movie theater. The Plaza at Palmer Ranch is anchored by a full-service Publix and a Target. Popular chains such as Starbucks and Chick-fil-A are among the most convenient dining options. Local, independent options include The Italian Grill, known for its wood-fired pizza; and Linksters Tap Room, a sports bar that specializes in craft beer.

Tamiami Trail allows for easy travel along the Gulf Coast
Tamiami Trial is not only the city’s primary retail and dining corridor, but it also serves as one of the Gulf Coast’s most-traveled roadways. Also known as U.S. Route 41, the thoroughfare bisects the neighborhood and provides quick and easy access to points along the Coast. Only 10 miles directly south is Venice, and about 20 miles directly north is Bradenton, where travelers can access Interstate 275 for the trip to St. Petersburg and Tampa. Closer to home, Tamiami Trail also is dotted with bus stops, providing convenient public transportation for work commutes or travel throughout the city.

Vamo Drive Park and Wharf Road Park, both located at the end of those respective roads, are small waterfront green spaces that provide launch access for kayaks and boats and a place to fish, watch birds and relax while enjoying the view. The only downside of living in this state in general is the humidity. There are many elders and retiree's in the area, so you know that the community is safe, and nice to live in. Most of the neighbors and people from the city exercise a lot at the parks, which shows a great mindset of the city.

This area tends to be transient because the cost of living is quit high here. The community tends to be very pet and family friendly as this is an extremely popular vacation destination.

We have large and well equipped police and fire departments, many community service organizations, and the local government officials work hard to keep the area a popular destination for global travelers.
