Boasting an incredible 100% graduation rate, Our Lady of the Elms in the Highland Square neighborhood offers a top-performing all-girls, faith-based education option to students in first through 12th grade.
Our Lady of the Elms was founded in 1923 by the Sisters of St. Dominic and offers a scenic, 33-acre campus that emphasizes a culture that fosters purpose, confidence, kindness, resilience, justice and faith. Rich in tradition, the site sits on the former estate of Arthur Marks – a renowned chemical researcher who revolutionized the rubber industry in Akron.
Small class sizes at the private school provide individualized and personalized instruction, while diverse programs allow learners to explore their unique passions. Notable programs and clubs include Academic Challenge, art club, drama, choir and Social Action Club – just to name a few. Various athletics programs are also offered, including golf, tennis, volleyball, basketball, bowling, swimming, softball and track and field.
When the Sisters of St. Dominic founded the Elms, they did so because they believed the active ministry of education was the best way of carrying out their dedication. To this day, the school maintains a strong commitment to service learning and that philosophy is infused throughout the curriculum. Each year, students in ninth through 12th grade are required to provide at least 10 hours of community service. These students serve at local soup kitchens and shelters, offer tutoring and volunteer at local hospitals and nursing homes.
