GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The school was experience was overall very good. The teachers at Altavista High School always made me feel connected to one another; also they're when you need them to be. If I could recommend some changes to happen is the overall atmosphere; such as the gloomy, old parts of the school. It just needs to be updated and more activities need to be added for everyone to have something they are interested in. This school is awesome and the faculty is always top notch!!

The school is very bad when it comes to protecting lgbt+ students. The school does have an amazing counselor but there is only one for the entire high school.

Altavista High School allows students a variety of programs to enhance their college readiness. However, more attention to academics, teachers, and opportunities can help to better the available programs.

Not the school I was expecting it to be. Really disappointed in the leadership at the school, they don't seem to care about the students at all, just trying to get them to graduate no matter the cost to the student long term (college prep, etc). There seems to be a strangely high focus on sports to...

Probably the worst school experience my child could have had in his last years of high school. Racially bullied and ignored by the faculty until things came to a head and then punished for defending himself. New principal just came to the school for his last year and it's clearly not someone ready t...

My experience at this school was absolutely terrible. My friend had special needs and their mom had explained countless times to officials at the school about their conditions and needs, provided evidence from doctors, therapists and the whole nine yards and they still did the bare minimum. Meaning...

Awful. All I got from this school is stress and none of it will actually help me in the real world.Don't let your kid go here if they are interested in Liberal Arts. The Drama department isn't even funded and it's terrible. It's a poor excuse and shouldn't even be considered "theater"
