Washington Middle School is located within the College Heights neighborhood of Bakersfield, California. The school first opened its doors in 1891, but had sustained a lot of damage during the 1952 earthquake that affected the area. It reopened its doors at its current location in 1955, and has been serving the Bakersfield community ever since. Washington Middle School is part of the Bakersfield City School District, and is considered a neighborhood school as most students live within walking distance of the school. Their mission is to educate students at the highest level of academic excellence so that they become collaborators, innovators and critical thinkers.
