Tracy Elementary is a public elementary school in Baldwin Park that opened in 1980. Part of the Baldwin Park Unified School District (BPUSD), it provides kindergarten through fifth grade plus transitional kindergarten for 4-year-olds. The school educates about 660 students per year. An immersive 90/10 dual language program is available for all Spanish-speaking students at Tracy Elementary. That means Spanish-speaking students in transitional kindergarten through first grade spend 90% of their school day in a Spanish-speaking environment. After that, the amount of instruction in English is increased by grade level, with fifth graders ultimately receiving half their instruction in English and half in Spanish. The dual language program helps Spanish-speaking students keep up academically as they achieve fluency in their new language. Tracy Elementary's dual language program has the California State Seal of Biliteracy and has won several regional awards. Tracy Elementary also offers after-school enrichment programs, a gifted and talented program and a running club, which meets at nearby Sierra Vista High School.

Tracy was a great school, among the top five in Baldwin Park. It now ranks second to the lowest in API scores. That is a shame because teachers do work hard, especially those part of the Dual Language program. They truly care about the school and their students. Leadership on part of the principal l...
