I switched to GSA about a month ago from Bucksport. Huge improvement in staff and education, and the food isnt... "school food." The food is prepared and made by the culinary arts students, and it tastes wonderful.

GSA is in trouble. It needs new leadership, the academics are average, the financial situation is dire, and their attendance is dropping.

I liked my high school education here, but it was hard to connect with others. It seems to be more of a legacy based institution, where people whose parents went there or donated more money to programs received undue attention. At times, being an outsider was hard.

GSA is a bastion of independent thought and academic rigor. I haven't seen any other school with as many honors and AP offerings. GSA needs new leadership. They are financially failing, academically average, and attendance is falling. Trustees and school admin blame everything but the obvious fact they are overstaffed, poorly managed, and losing market share of area students who are increasingly choosing other schools.
